One of the first times I realized something was wrong with Occupy Vancouver was an incident I had with Sarah Beuhler. I noticed during the planning meeting that Sarah was rather stand-offish when unknown people approached her (hardly the trait of a true occupier), but I had no idea how radical her views would be until a couple of days after we opened our camp.

A sign from this weekend’s Robocall rally- are they calling for too much too soon?
When I first heard about the Robocall Scandal I was immediately compelled to join the movement to call for an inquiry. If the allegations are true, we have a very serious problem in our country- and, justice must be served. However, as I’ve shared with you before, I was quickly disillusioned my the direction of the Robocall Rallies.

It all began on Friday afternoon when officers from the Toronto Police Department came to Occupy Toronto’s new occupation at Osgoode Hall. They told the occupiers that they must leave their space, despite the fact we had explicit permission from the property manager to stay there.
In the aftermath, four occupiers were arrested- two of them ended up being hospitalized due to the unnecessary violence of the arresting officers…

Alex Hundert makes a public apology to the police!
After witnessing the violence Toronto police officers imposed on Occupiers this week, and the reactions at yesterday’s occupation in front of the 52 Division police station- Alex Hundert & Harsha Walia have made a joint announcement that it is time for the people to find ways to make peace with the police.

Today was a challenging day- both for Occupiers, and for the police. Fortunately, the majority of police acted in an entirely professional manner. And, yes, that was expected- after yesterday’s brutal violence, it was doubtful many cops would want to escalate further.

The GA just issued the following demands/conditions for leaving our current occupation at Simcoe & Dundas in front of the 52 division police station.

I am still deeply disturbed with what happened yesterday at Osgoode Hall. Yes. the Occupiers could have handled the situation better. However, the level of violence was uncalled for, and the police should have been better trained how to de-escalate the situation. Instead, they got violent and created a major incident.
