A friend called me shortly after I published my story criticising Antonia Zerbisias’s shameless Toronto Star article canonizing a G20 ringleader. She told me to watch out because Zerbisias is a bit of a hothead who often reacts quicker than she thinks. Well, it appears that she’s decided to go ahead and prove it again for us today- following the same path of a con-artist who abuses indigenous people, and that crazy guy who believes that Obama has been to Mars.
So, yes, it appears that my friend was right on the money when she said Zerbisias is a hothead. In many ways she’s the Sandy Garossino of the East. Because, not only is she afraid of criticism- but it appears that Zerbisias would also sooner bully someone than to address it.

Irwin Oostinde & Vision Vancouver Mayor Gregor Robertson at the W2…
There’s something strange going on at the W2 Media Centre- I smell a scandal. I’ve written about them a few times in the past- my interest in the place began during an exchange I had with their (former) executive director Irwin Oostindie. He was evasive, weasel-like, and he became quite abusive when I wrote to him (in a very friendly and positive way) asking some questions while Occupy Vancouver was debating whether to use their space.
Oostinde eventually apologized, but he’s held my attention ever since- something didn’t seem right about the W2…

Antonia Zerbisias: Pro-beer violence aficionado…
The Toronto Star never ceases to amaze me. It’s not the quality of their content, the style of their fonts, or the beauty of their photography that catch my interest- they’re okay. What really blows me out of my seat about the Star is their continuing support and promotion of the vandals who turned Toronto into a war zone at the G20. I’m truly impressed by how they manage to write this sort of crap and people still buy the paper.
I’ve covered a few of the Star’s shameless stories about the plights of the G20 “ringleaders” (for some reason, Zerbisias uses quotes). My favourite was when they helped promote Alex Hundert (who trained G20 vandals and gave them a list of targets) after he was in jail for less than a month. They helped diefy Hundert in the anarchist community by promoting his campaign to get library books to people at the Toronto West Detention Centre.
Many people I’ve discussed this article with agree that the Star was disrespecting Torontonians…

As I wrote yesterday- Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside (DTES) has become a power-base for some of the more radical elements of the NDP. The Old-Left Saviour Industrial Complex (OLSIC®) have been profiting off of the poor in a number of ways including political power, union jobs and many millions of dollars in funding. Today’s story is about how this funding is used and manipulated for the benefit of politicians.

Naomi Klein & Harsha Walia poverty pimpin’ it in the DTES…
Yesterday was the one year anniversary of when I attended my first Harsha Walia protest– I’ve been confounded by it ever since. The protest was in front of a development named Sequel 138 in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside (DTES). It seemed like a sound project to me- the developer was taking down a derelict, unused, building and putting up a mixed-use condo with 89 reasonably priced (for Vancouver) private suites and 18 social housing suites.
I lived in a very similar building on the Uilenburg when I first moved to Amsterdam. It’s a great concept, and it works. What impressed me most was how equalizing these kinds of buildings are. There were separate entrances for the residents, but they acknowledged each other and engaged in lively discussions. Their conversations migrated from the sidewalk, to each other’s apartments- kids from both sides of the building had a large part in bridging the gap.
So, if this works elsewhere- why are Vancouver’s radical left so hell bent against it?
