Events led by the Ontario Coalition Against Poverty always make for an exciting story, yesterday’s housing protest was no exception. The fun began at Alan Gardens park where OCAP members bribed about 200 useful idiots to show up with food, free bus tokens and a license to create mayhem on the streets of Toronto. It was the perfect anarchist Sunday.

The protest began peacefully at the park, revolutionary music was blasting through the PA system while OCAP’s cannon fodder lined up for free food. When everyone was finished eating they moved on to giving speeches, and the obligatory indigenous drummers. Many of the ‘usual suspects’ were present, but there was also an interesting new contingent of anarchists from Montreal.

The Ontario Coalition Against Poverty (OCAP) has made an announcement that they plan to setup camp and occupy Allan Gardens Park tonight as part of a protest against gentrification. OCAP is a union sponsored organization that’s closely related with Sid Ryan at the Ontario Federation of Labour. They’re probably most well known for leading the Queen’s Park Riot in 2000 were one of their members threw Molotov cocktails at police officers who were guarding the steps of the Ontario Legislature.

The sponsorship list for this illegal occupation is quite interesting. As most OCAP events it includes the usual trouble makers, socialist obedience cults and anarchist groups. But, one sponsor stands out- George Brown College. How did that happen?

An Ode To My Old Phone (And a request for your help…)

She's treated us all very well...

She’s treated us all very well…

A bit over 18 months ago I got myself a beautiful new phone. She was sleek, leading edge, and (to my inner techie) a little bundle of joy. Our first day together was amazing- I loaded apps, took pictures, called people I love ( bragged about my new love), and made my first tweets. From that day, she was mine.

If you’ve been following my work you’ve probably seen what she can do. Together we’ve live-tweeted pictures of radical left marches, arrests, and protests. I’ve used her screen to write emails, read Facebook messages, and to respond to your comments. Our relationship was fantastic.

But, then, something tragic happened.

[UPDATED] Peterborough Asshat Desecrates Vermont 9/11 Memorial (feat. Amanda Lickers)

There’s a certain irony that Amanda Lickers refers to cops as “pigs”…

Update: Don Stevens, chief of the Nulhegan Abenaki Tribe has gone on the record saying that the protester’s actions were ‘disgusting’, that they didn’t approve it, and they don’t believe the flags were on a grave site- but, if it were, they would be ‘proud’ to have the flags there. Here’s the story.

For the past ten years students at Vermont’s Middlebury College have setup a simple memorial for victims of 9/11. Members of the College Democrats & Republicans lay out 2,977 American flags- one for each person who was killed.  Despite their many political differences, people from both groups (and society in general) agree it was tragic so many people were killed.

It takes a special type of sleaze bag to desecrate a memorial for the dead. In this case it took five- one student, and four people from outside. They came, armed with garbage bags, removed each flag and threw them in the trash. The apparent leader of this incident comes from Peterborough, Ontario- her name is Amanda Lickers, and she’s no stranger to sleazy protests.
