Is BC Housing The New Riverview Hospital?

I’ve been doing some research for a story on the effects of the government closing down Riverview, and other mental health facilities- and how it helped turn Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside into the mess that it is. I found these very interesting videos interviewing a former employee/resident of Raincity housing.

Notice how he mentions BC Housing has become the new home for the mentally ill- is this a part of the problem?

There is so much to address in these videos that I just don’t know where to start. There is obviously a problem with some non-profits running buildings on-behalf of BC Housing. Janice Abbott’s lies and conflict-of-interest is only the tip of the iceberg. This guy’s story is tragic…

I’d be interested in hearing other people’s stories of their experiences at Raincity, or any BC Housing residences managed by non-profits. You can mail me confidentially, or feel free to leave a comment here.

the relationship between non profits and bc housing is most interesting.
however that is just one part of the puzzle. there is also all levels of goverments and funders involved.

we also must look at diversion of funds from programs or services to put towards down payments for prpoerty

many will say it was done thru internal savings and yes that is true.

my experience as a board member of a major mental health non profit was to witness the effects of the internal savings.

quality of food reduced, less staffing . reduced operating hours . reduction or cancellation of music therapy , started renovations stopped to divert funds i could go on and on.

    we must ask who benift
